Only After Manas Has Determination (Adhimokṣa) Can It Be Perfumed

To fully permeate and guide the manas, the mind consciousness must diligently deliberate; without deliberation and contemplative practice (vipaśyanā-caryā), it is impossible to truly guide the manas.

If the manas lacks determination (adhimokṣa), can the deliberation, contemplative practice, and understanding of the mind consciousness guide the manas? Can the manas be permeated? Obviously not. No matter how the mind consciousness acts, the manas simply does not determine, and the mind consciousness's performance is utterly useless. Therefore, as long as the manas has been influenced, it has been permeated, meaning it has determined the information transmitted by the mind consciousness.

If the manas lacks determination, then no matter what information the mind consciousness transmits, it is useless; moreover, the manas will no longer decide to let the mind consciousness help it discern any dharma. Even after discernment, the manas still does not understand, so the manas will not decide to discern. Then the manas will gradually quiet down, as if blind, deaf, mute. In fact, the manas greatly enjoys letting the mind consciousness discern and discriminate and then report back to itself, which shows that the manas must have determined the content of the mind consciousness's discernment, and only then does it continuously prompt the mind consciousness to discern, discriminate, think, and judge.
