Characteristics of Samadhi

Samadhi is the union of meditative concentration and wisdom; the absence of either renders it incomplete. Various levels of realization give rise to corresponding levels of Samadhi states. These states encompass characteristics of meditative concentration, features of wisdom, attributes of physical sensations and perceptions, and for deeper levels of concentration, manifestations of spiritual powers and supernatural abilities. The emergence of Samadhi brings about incomparable lightness and comfort in physical sensations and perceptions, reduced or eliminated need for sleep, joyful body and mind, an increasingly empty mind, diminished ignorance, deepening wisdom, and reduced or vanished afflictions.
