What Is Klesha as Bodhi?

Afflictions are Bodhi. The entire process of the arising of afflictions is the function of the Tathagatagarbha. Afflictions are formed from the seeds of the Tathagatagarbha; the entirety of afflictions is created by the Tathagatagarbha, shaped according to the afflicted mental activities of the manas. In essence, they are all the Tathagatagarbha. It is like molding a poisonous snake from clay—the poisonous snake is entirely composed of the attributes of clay; the two are neither identical nor different. Therefore, it is said that the manifestations of afflictions are the Tathagatagarbha; it is the attribute of the Tathagatagarbha; it is the nature of the Tathagatagarbha.
