The Principle of the Double-Slit Experiment

Once the six consciousnesses—or the seven consciousnesses, or one's own eight consciousnesses—join in the perception of matter, the three transforming consciousnesses can manifest and alter the state of matter. That is to say, a essential object (bhūta) is composed of fixed particles of the four great elements; once it enters the supreme faculty of the human eye, the particles of the four great elements must undergo change, with their quantity and even their proportional structure changing. When it falls into the minds of the five sense consciousnesses and the mind consciousness, and the realm manifested through the six consciousnesses' reliance upon it—how could it not change? How could the realm not be altered? But this change only alters the realm manifested through the reliance of the six consciousnesses; the essential object remains as it is. This is why, in the double-slit experiment, once a light wave is observed, it becomes particle-like; and this is also why a plant or an animal raised by different people will have different states of life and vitality.
