What state is it to follow one's heart's desire without overstepping the rules?

"Ju" (矩) means rules and norms. Some people can restrain themselves to abide by the rules, while others need no restraint—acting freely according to their nature, yet never overstepping or violating the rules. When the manas has been tamed and afflictions eradicated, whatever one does will not transgress the boundaries of the rules; the mind does not accord with afflictions and will not create afflicted karma. When there is no afflicted mind, there is no afflicted karma. It is like an ox that, once tamed, will spontaneously refrain from trampling crops even without anyone watching or supervising; it is like a monkey that, once tamed, will never run wild again.
