If one's own wisdom is low, even when relying on the teachings, one cannot truly rely on them, because one cannot understand the teachings and does not know the true meaning and direction of the dharma teachings; one often misunderstands the teachings and misinterprets them. Relying on such misinterpreted teachings and then comparing them with what others say, the reference point is wrong, so the result of the comparison is of course erroneous, and one cannot accurately judge whether what others say is correct or not.
If one's wisdom is low, even if one wants to rely on the Dharma, there is no way to do so; likewise, one cannot judge the true meaning and direction of the dharma principles. One either misunderstands the dharma principles or only vaguely and dimly grasps them; one cannot understand the dharma meanings expounded by others and cannot truly comprehend them. In this way, one cannot accurately judge whether what others say is correct or not, and one will not gain the benefits of the Dharma. Moreover, if one insists on thrusting oneself forward and judging everywhere, one will easily create the karma of slander, which not only obstructs one's own progress on the path but also brings the evil retribution of ignorant slander. Therefore, when one's own wisdom is still insufficient, one should bury oneself in study and practice, refrain from judging any dharma or any person, be a wise person, not create evil karma, and not receive evil retribution.
