Characteristics of Samadhi

Samadhi is the integration of meditative concentration and wisdom; the absence of either renders it incomplete. Attainments at various levels give rise to corresponding levels of samadhi states. These states encompass characteristics of meditative concentration, features of wisdom, manifestations of physical sensations and perceptions, and, at deeper levels of concentration, even displays of supernatural powers and spiritual abilities. The emergence of samadhi brings about an extraordinarily light, tranquil, and comfortable state in physical sensations and perceptions, sleep is lessened or eliminated, body and mind become joyful, the inner mind progressively empties, ignorance diminishes, wisdom deepens progressively, and afflictions become increasingly subtle or vanish altogether.
