A Bodhisattva is an enlightened sentient being, benefiting self and others. If one does not deliver sentient beings, one is an Arhat, not a Bodhisattva.
By delivering sentient beings, a Bodhisattva, on one hand, cultivates blessings and virtues, and on the other hand, increases wisdom. Most importantly, in the process of attaining Buddhahood, a Bodhisattva must continuously form karmic connections with an ever-increasing number of sentient beings in order to possess immeasurable and boundless disciples at various levels, thereby enabling the future establishment of a Buddha land.
For a Bodhisattva to become a Buddha and establish a Buddha land, it requires the support and cooperation of countless disciples at various levels to broadly deliver immeasurable sentient beings. Without disciples, one becomes a solitary figure and cannot establish a Buddha land. Moreover, one's own spiritual progress depends on disciples. Just like a pyramid, one is the pinnacle; without the base, how can there be a pinnacle? This means that saving sentient beings is saving oneself. A Bodhisattva must unconditionally deliver sentient beings to become a Buddha. Conversely, one's own spiritual advancement cannot be separated from the guidance and assistance of virtuous friends, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas. Therefore, forming karmic connections with true virtuous friends is also crucial.
