To eradicate the view of self requires evidence, and that evidence must be conclusive. The habitual tendencies of the manas should not be too strong, and its ignorance should not be too profound. If the manas is exceedingly foolish, even if all the evidence is presented and is irrefutable, the manas still clings stubbornly to its original fallacies—then the view of self cannot be eradicated. The continuous contemplative practice and thought process of the consciousness is the very means of gradually reversing the foolish ignorance of the manas. Only when the ignorance of the manas has diminished somewhat will it be willing to acknowledge the truth. Otherwise, even if the facts are plainly evident before it, it still proves ineffective.
