Are Defiled Seeds Transformed or Eradicated?

Defiled seeds are the seeds left behind by karmic actions committed with a defiled mind. Once these seeds mature, sentient beings undergo evil retribution, and when the retribution is exhausted, the seeds are eliminated. If one repents of defiled karma, after the mind transforms to purity, the defiled seeds will also be eliminated, and in future lives one will not undergo evil retribution or will undergo less of it; therefore defiled seeds can be eliminated. If ignorance is gradually extinguished, the mind will transform and become increasingly pure, luminosity will gradually increase, and more and more defiled seeds will be eliminated, until they are completely extinguished and the mind is ultimately pure without remainder—one then becomes a Buddha. As ignorance becomes ever thinner and luminosity ever more substantial, the defiled becomes ever less, and pure wholesome karma becomes ever more abundant, until in the end there is only pure karma and seeds, with no defiled karma or seeds.
