Do Not Make Enemies of Anyone

Those who win the hearts of the people win the world; those who lose the hearts of the people lose the world. Therefore, everyone should not make enemies of all the people in the world, nor oppose anyone. The manas of a single person may lack power, but when the manas of many people join together, that power becomes immense, and those who are hostilely regarded will surely meet with calamity. As the common saying goes, the spittle of the multitude can drown a person—it is precisely this principle. The power of the manas of spiritual practitioners is greater than that of ordinary people; the power of the manas of those who possess meditative concentration (samādhi) is greater than that of ordinary people; the power of the manas of those who are upright in mind is greater than that of ordinary people; the power of the manas of those with great wholesome karma is greater than that of ordinary people. Therefore, do not oppose those who are truly cultivated in practice, and do not oppose the upright and the good—this is what a wise person does.
