When consciousness departs, whether the manas can introspect upon itself or not—since consciousness is absent, how could it possibly know? Consider two individuals, A and B. When B is not present, how can A determine whether he can introspect upon himself? If B's eyes are obstructed, even when directly facing A, how can he observe and discern A's mental activities? The consciousness of ordinary sentient beings is like B with obstructed vision, unable to directly observe and ascertain whether the manas possesses certain mental activities through valid cognition. Therefore, I advise ordinary sentient beings to focus single-mindedly on their practice and prepare for realization, rather than drawing definitive conclusions about the manas or the Dharma of Vijñapti-mātra and Buddha-wisdom. Such conclusions remain far, far away from their actual, experiential observation through valid cognition.
