What are the karmic conditions?

Karmic conditions, as the name suggests, are the conditions arising from bodily, verbal, and mental actions, and they are also the conditions by which the five aggregates undergo the retribution of wholesome and unwholesome karma. It is only through these karmic conditions that the body of the five aggregates can live, create karma, and receive retribution amid all dharmas. All dharmas include everything in one's surroundings—people, affairs, objects, and principles—including other bodies of the five aggregates, the living environment, and all natural phenomena of the material universe, the vessel-world of the cosmos. Sentient beings rely on these to create karma and receive its retribution. One's mode of living, conditions of survival, and means of livelihood are karmic conditions; family members, relatives, close friends, and colleagues are karmic conditions. Only with these conditions can one receive the retribution of wholesome and unwholesome karma. Among these, the physical body is the karmic fruit of direct retribution, and it can also be a karmic cause and condition for the physical body before the end of life and the physical body of future lives; the environment is the karmic fruit of circumstantial retribution, and it can likewise be a karmic cause and condition. A dharma can be a cause, a condition, or a fruit—the dharma is not fixed, and neither is the fruit.
