Although one may read ten thousand volumes of books, without understanding their meaning, it is not true diligence. The fundamental purpose of studying the Dharma is to attain wisdom, not to amass countless pieces of knowledge and learning, nor to study for the sake of studying alone, much less to study for others to see. Therefore, to attain wisdom, we must earnestly contemplate what we should do and how to do it. Buddhists learn the mind and actions of the Buddha; it is not about collecting all the words of the Buddha, but rather, through the Buddha's words, to understand the Buddha's mind, then learn the Buddha's mind, emulate the Buddha's actions, and ultimately be equal to the Buddha, showing compassion to others.
