I have an attendant, keeping watch with me day and night; following me in every way, serving me with utmost devotion.
If I go east, He does not go west; if I sit or lie down, He does not stand.
If I eat, He does not drink tea; if I look at things, He does not hear sounds.
If I am a human, He is not a ghost; if I ascend to heaven, He does not enter the earth.
If I do good deeds, He helps me accumulate merit; if I do evil, He assists me as well.
If I cultivate the path, He follows me beyond the world; if I drift with the current, He enters the mundane world with me.
If I deliberate, He bestows upon me seeds of consciousness; if I rest my mind, He grants me vitality and warmth.
If I seek pleasure, He rejoices along with me; if I seek death, He complies with me even then.
All secrets, He holds entirely; wholesome karma He proclaims, and unwholesome karma He does not conceal.
People say He is foolish, yet He is truly selfless; fair and just, equal and undifferentiated.
Buddhahood comes through Him, and saṃsāra depends on Him; He accomplishes all things, and He makes us human.
All the buddha-lands are accomplished by Him; the hells of Yama are created and fashioned by Him.
Boundless merit gathers in a single body; whether praised or blamed, He pays no heed.
Intrinsically pure, He does not condition on worldly dust; among sages He is not increased, among ordinary beings He is not diminished.
Present in both purity and defilement, His own substance remains unstained; He does not admire the buddhas, nor abandon the ignorant.
Through countless kalpas He has remained nameless, His mind-nature without self; His lifespan is inexhaustible, neither arising nor ceasing.
He is endowed with the myriad dharmas, yet attains nothing at all; a priceless jewel, He enjoys not even a fraction of it.
Originally noble and exalted, He humbles Himself to appear poor; entering within my body, He wears tattered, defiled garments.
Like a cintāmaṇi jewel, His light illuminates the great thousand worlds; if one does not follow Him, one dwells forever in a dark abode.
Compared with Him, I am filled with shame and remorse; now I make a vow to learn from Him and follow Him.
Scrubbing away the filth, removing ignorance; revealing His nobility, and showing forth my virtues and abilities.
With both merit and wisdom complete, abiding in permanence, bliss, self, and purity; perfecting everything, the sun of wisdom shines radiantly.
