All Things Are Created by the Mind Alone

Original text of the Pure Conduct Chapter of the Avataṃsaka Sūtra (Da fangguang fo huayan jing): 若诸菩萨善用其心，则获一切胜妙功德。

This statement shows that all dharmas are mind-only, that they are only the three transforming consciousnesses, that they are created by mind alone—created by the three transforming consciousnesses acting in concert. When the deluded mind of the seventh consciousness is wholesome, the fruit is wholesome; when the mind is unwholesome, the fruit is unwholesome; when the mind is excellent, the fruit is excellent. The fruit is generated from the karmic seeds within the tathāgatagarbha. Therefore, cultivation is the cultivation of the mind; practice that does not cultivate the mind is not true practice.
