Original text:
Explanation: Thus, by the power of intensified mental engagement (adhimātramanaskārabala) arising from direct perception, one observes the various marks of change and impermanence of the fifteen kinds of internal phenomena. After this observation, one then continues to observe the various marks of change and impermanence of the sixteen kinds of external phenomena. How does one observe the marks of change and impermanence of land affairs? One observes the location of this land: previously, no practice halls, temples, dwellings, marketplaces, city walls, and so forth had been built there; later, one sees these newly constructed, well made and well adorned. Then at another time, one sees them decayed and crumbling, fallen into ruin and collapse, dilapidated and breached, burned by fire, or swept away by water. Having observed these things, one then forms this thought: such formations are truly impermanent in nature. Why is this said? Because the transformation of their material forms, from before to after, can be directly observed in the present.
