The Twelfth Patriarch, Great Being Aśvaghoṣa's Verse on Transmitting the Dharma

Original text: 隐显即本法，明暗无不二；今付悟了法，非取也非弃。

Explanation: Whether hidden or manifest, the tathāgatagarbha, for sentient beings, always possesses its inherent functions and capacities; it is the originally existent dharma that never vanishes or perishes. The light and darkness within sentient beings' minds are not entirely a duality apart from the tathāgatagarbha; light and darkness, delusion and awakening, exist because of the tathāgatagarbha and arise in dependence upon the tathāgatagarbha—they are intrinsically the nature of the tathāgatagarbha. What I now transmit and entrust is the dharma of realizing the tathāgatagarbha: the tathāgatagarbha, as one's own mind, never grasps at any of the worldly dharmas, nor does it abandon them—neither identical nor separate. He has no mental activities of the three realms, and His purity is unsurpassed.
