The Emergence of Language Demonstrates Consciousness as the Instrument of Manas

Before speech is produced, energy must first gather in the dantian. During this gathering process, although the energy is concentrated in the dantian, its energy field manifests and radiates externally. Those with a refined meditative mind will perceive this energy field, along with the flow of breath and energy, sensing what is about to occur. What is about to be discovered? That this person is about to speak. Based on their energy field, facial expressions, and the surrounding atmosphere, one can anticipate what they are likely to say—a predictive, precognitive ability.

It is akin to a skilled sniper targeting a running person. Whether the person runs in a straight line or a serpentine path, the sniper accurately predicts the exact location the runner is about to reach, fires in advance to that spot, and successfully hits the target. Similarly, a person with strong meditative concentration possesses this predictive foresight. By sensing the aura and energy field emanating from the person before them, perceiving the surge of energy and its direction, they will know what the person intends to do, what they are about to say, and the meaning they wish to convey.

When sufficient energy has gathered in the dantian, it ascends through the body's channels, moving toward the navel, chest cavity, throat, and oral cavity. Upon uniting with the teeth and tongue, speech is produced. A person in meditation will feel a stream of energy flowing out from the speaker's mouth and sense a radiating vibrational energy. The more abundant the energy, the more authoritative, controlled, persuasive, and captivating the speech becomes. A person with an upright mind possesses ample inner energy, resulting in significant influence and persuasive power, conveying sincerity and easily inspiring trust. This is also the result of an individual's virtue resonating with others.

Speech is a karmic action of the mental consciousness, inseparable from the body consciousness, and together they express emotions and intentions. However, the formation of mental consciousness arises at the final stage of the energy flow. The flow of energy is controlled by manas (the root mind). Before the flow begins, manas has the intention to express, prompting the energy to gather in the dantian. Subsequently, it ascends to the oral cavity, where mental consciousness and body consciousness jointly produce speech. Thus, it is understood that mental consciousness is the tool employed by manas to achieve its objectives; mental consciousness serves manas.

Therefore, the words, language, and sounds generated by mental consciousness represent the purpose of manas; they are produced under the direction of manas. Similarly, the bodily and mental actions generated by mental consciousness represent the purpose of manas; they are produced under the direction of manas. Consequently, the defilements and purity inherent in bodily, verbal, and mental actions reflect the defilements and purity of manas. It is the defilements and purity of manas that create bodily, verbal, and mental actions imbued with defilements or purity. From this, it can be known that the mental factors associated with manas must necessarily encompass all defiled mental factors, all wholesome mental factors, and all neutral mental factors. This demonstrates that manas is the sovereign consciousness, exercising fundamental decisive influence over all phenomena.
