The Profound Yogācāra Meaning of the Diamond Sutra (91)

The World-Honored One said: Subhūti, in whatever place there is this Diamond Sutra, with the indestructible vajra mind, the tathāgatagarbha, all the devas, humans, and asuras of the world should come to make offerings to this sutra, to make offerings to the Mahāyāna Tathāgata Buddha. You should know that wherever this sutra is found, that place is a stūpa, a solemn place of practice. All sentient beings should respectfully make offerings there, circumambulating the stūpa with their whole body and mind in homage, and scattering all kinds of flowers and incense upon it, offering fragrant flowers to the Buddha's stūpa shrine.

Why should offerings be made wherever this sutra is found? Because this sutra is the Dharmakāya Buddha (dharma-kāya-buddha); it is the Tathāgata. Only by making offerings to this Buddha can one ultimately attain buddhahood; moreover, one should primarily make offerings through receiving, upholding, reading, and reciting it, and make offerings by relying upon it in practice—only then can one ultimately attain buddhahood. Why is the place where this sutra is found a place of practice? Because all practice is carried out centered upon this sutra; all practice is carried out within this place of practice; all dharmas come from this place of practice; all the work of liberating sentient beings is carried out within this place of practice; ultimately attaining buddhahood is also accomplished within this place of practice; the wisdom of all aspects (sarvākārajñatā) is perfected within this place of practice; and all buddha-lands are also accomplished within this place of practice. Why should one pay homage and circumambulate this sutra? Because no sentient being and no dharma can fundamentally depart from this sutra; even without circumambulating, it is still circumambulation—it cannot be otherwise. Even one who possesses infinite power cannot escape from this sutra and this stūpa.
