The Venerable Master Kuiji entered samadhi for several thousand years in his past life, with his mental faculty not being fixed. How was he able to remain in samadhi for thousands of years? In this samadhi, the six consciousnesses were absent, for with the six consciousnesses present, one cannot remain in samadhi for long. The meditative attainments of non-Buddhists are also profound, enabling them to enter samadhi for eighty thousand kalpas, all sustained by the mental faculty within the state of concentration.
