What Does 'Samanantara' Mean?

"Immediate condition" (samanantara) refers to the continuous arising and ceasing of seeds of the same kind, equal and without interruption. For example, with the seeds of the mind consciousness: as soon as one seed arises and ceases at a certain location, the next one immediately follows, also arising and ceasing at that location. In this way, seed after seed of consciousness arises and ceases in sequence, and only then can the mind consciousness carry out its activities of recognition and discernment continuously without interruption.
