The Origin of the Karmic Retribution of Ignorance

If a person misunderstands a piece of Dharma meaning, yet firmly clings to his own view as correct, believing that everyone else's views are wrong, how does the tathāgatagarbha record this matter? Does it record and form karmic seeds according to the content of his misunderstanding, or does it record according to the actual principle of reality?

The tathāgatagarbha always records and forms karmic seeds according to the facts. What are the facts of this matter? The fact is that this person misunderstood the Dharma meaning—it is not as he believed and decided. Although the deliberation (manasikāra) of this person's manas decided that the Dharma meaning should be thus, the fact is otherwise; therefore the tathāgatagarbha will record his erroneous thoughts and views, forming karmic seeds. When these karmic seeds become manifest in a later life, the result will be the retribution of foolishness and delusion.
