Non-quantified perception is nothing but erroneous cognition, a form of heterodox view. Before realizing the true nature of mind, the seventh consciousness's perception of self is entirely non-quantified perception, entirely heterodox views. Even after severing the view of self and attaining Arhatship, the perception of the self composed of the five aggregates is not entirely direct perception, because Arhats still do not fully understand the true essence of the five-aggregate body and mind. Therefore, the only one whose perception of the five-aggregate body and mind is based entirely on pure direct perception, without the slightest trace of heterodox views, is the Buddha. The Buddha's wisdom is entirely the wisdom of direct perception.
The non-quantified perception of the five-aggregate self stems entirely from the ignorance of the mental faculty. Thus, the ultimate purpose and goal of all Buddhist study and practice is to eradicate the non-quantified perceptions of the mental faculty, eliminate all its inverted heterodox views, and exhaust its ignorance. Once the ignorance of the mental faculty is completely severed, one immediately becomes a Mahayana non-learner, and no further cultivation is needed.
