Dharma Teachings

Are the Five Aggregates Within or Without the Eighth Consciousness?

Are the five aggregates not within the eighth consciousness? Then are they outside the eighth consciousness? What lies beyond the eighth consciousness? Which dharma is not the eighth consciousness? Does the eighth consciousness have an outside? What is outside? Is it empty space? But empty space is also within the eighth consciousness. What dharma exists outside the eighth consciousness?

Which dharma can exist apart from the eighth consciousness? If it cannot be separated from the eighth consciousness, can it be outside? External dharmas can be separated from the eighth consciousness? What dharma can exist independently, apart from the eighth consciousness? The Śūraṅgama Sūtra states: All dharmas are but wondrous manifestations within the true mind.

The substance of the eighth consciousness contains no... has no... yet all dharmas are inseparable from the eighth consciousness, yet are not adjacent to it. The eighth consciousness is called the One True Dharma Realm; all dharmas are within the One True Dharma Realm. They are not within the substance of the mind, for the substance of the mind is void, utterly devoid of anything, as stated in the Heart Sutra.
